Therapy or counselling has always been synonymous with “Listening” or simply “Advising”, even today most people find it a waste of time and money. However, Counselling, is not advising at all. It is a communication between two people, wherein the helper tries to guide the help-seeker overcome and deal with life situations, reduce emotional distress, to be able to make meaningful relationships, become more independent in making wise decisions.

In various cases, counselling has proven to help people change their lifestyles by understanding their dysfunctional or disruptive behaviour, that maybe harmful to them or their surroundings.  I believe that people have answers to all or most of the problems in life. However, old thinking and habit patterns force us to remain stagnant, not allowing us to move ahead. At times, one is emotionally disturbed and all they need is to vent.   Each person is different therefore therapy is tailor made for each individual depending on their requirement and their pressing issue.

The kind of issues that could be talked about are, 

  • Self Esteem/Self confidence 
  • Stress management
  • indecisiveness
  • Emotional trauma – (break ups, loss of someone close, a fight with someone close)
  • Anger Management
  • Body Image issues
  • Impulsive Behaviour
  • Depression
  • Irregular sleeping pattern or insomnia
  • Failure/guilt
  • Anxiety issues

DURATION – These sessions are usually of 45 minutes to 50 minutes. No. of sessions is ideally determined after the diagnosis and the first consultation. On an average for an issue the counselling could cover the issue in 6 to 8 sessions, at times, it can take just 2 to 3 sessions. 

CHARGESThe sessions are charged for an hour.  

In person – The first consultation is charged at INR 800. The follow up sessions are charged at INR 500.  

Online – All the sessions are charged at INR 500.

COUNSELLING APPROACH – With counselling and therapy now becoming more acceptable there are a lot of approaches and therapies used for counselling. I have been trained to use the Egan’s Helper model, therefore I use CBT, REBT, GESTALT, PERSON-CENTERED, TA, MINDFULNESS, MEDITATION. These approaches are again based on the pressing issue of the client and the flow of counselling. The structure of counselling is usually discussed during the first consultation.
